Marvel’s Eternals Film Modifies One Hero’s Powers

Captain Marvel alum Gemma Chan takes on her second role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in filmmaker Chloé Zhao’s upcoming Marvel Studios film Eternals, stepping into the footsteps of the Eternal known as Sersi. Chan recently spoke about Sersi and her superpowers, and it appears that the film will deviate from the comics in certain ways.

Sersi isn’t your traditional superhero: she’s not the best combatant, and she doesn’t have the most evident amazing talents,” Chan told Vogue. “The most important thing is that she’s an empath. She is connected to humanity, as well as the globe and the Earth. That is her strength, so I relied on it.”

Sersi is a telepath with the power to converse mentally, read minds, project thoughts to others and even utilize hypnotics in original Marvel comic books. Despite being a telepath, she is not depicted as an empath in the comics. That being said, while the film version of Sersi will reportedly have psychic empathy at her disposal, it remains to be seen whether this skill will completely replace her customary telepathy or simply supplement it.

Sersi will nevertheless be the second main empathy for the MCU, Pom Klementieff’s first Mantis, which launched the Galaxy Guardians Vol 2 in 2017. In 2018, in Avengers: Infinity War and 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, Klementieff subsequently resumed her role as Mantis. It is expected that she will return to Galaxy Vol. 3 Guards and the Galaxy Holidays Specialhttps://recent9ja.com.ng/the-suicide-squad-just-imprisoned-a-major-arrowverse-hero/ Guards of Disney+.

Sersi first appeared formally as Circe in Venus #9 in 1950. But the figure as we know her now was first created and illustrated by the Eternal creator Jack Kirby in 1976, Eternal No. 3. (though her name was spelled as “Sersy” in that issue).

On november 5, Eternals will be the third of four MCU films scheduled for release in 2021. The first one was Black Widow, which concurrently premiered on 9 July in the theaters and at Disney+ Premier Access. Eternals will release No Way Home following the Shang-Chi and Legend of the Ten Rings on Sept. 3 and Spider-Man on Dec. 17.
